The AAO has announced that the 2025 AAO Ortho Innovator Award will be presented to Dr. Nourah Abdul Kader and Karthik Vinayagamoorthi for their product, OrthoBerry.

Kader, an orthodontic resident at the University of Illinois Chicago, and Vinayagamoorthi, an AI-powered electronic medical records solution developer and experienced practice management consultant, co-founded OrthoBerry. The company offers the first AI-driven new patient intake platform designed specifically for orthodontic practices.

Unlike traditional fragmented software solutions, OrthoBerry integrates essential practice workflows — including insurance verification, patient intake forms, call handling, case presentation, patient payments and task management — into a single AI-powered system. The system is designed to reduce operational overhead, streamline processes and enable practices to harness AI for enhanced efficiency.

OrthoBerry revolutionizes patient intake by leveraging open-source, large-language models to enhance efficiency, reduce administrative burden and deliver a seamless, patient-centric experience with a mobile-friendly, intuitive, and transparent interface.

“OrthoBerry transforms the new patient experience by providing a personalized, frictionless journey before patients even step into the practice — helping orthodontists differentiate themselves in a competitive landscape,” said Kader. “We are thrilled and honored to receive recognition from the AAO Ortho Innovator program.”

Ortho Innovator selection process and honorable mentions

The AAO Committee on Technology (CTECH) judges the Ortho Innovator Award competition and this year reviewed 34 entries. Businesses considered eligible to enter the competition are companies offering new products or services for orthodontic treatment or orthodontic practice management. CTECH evaluates each entry by its feasibility within the practice of orthodontics, uniqueness and value the product may contribute to the orthodontic practice.

In addition to OrthoBerry’s award, CTECH also announced 2025 Honorable Mentions including:

  • Dr. Tuan Nguyen Anh, Viceph
