Seattle, WA, USA: Global2Labs and the Northwest Implant Research Group (NWIRG) have announced a new dental implant research study now open for doctor participation in the United States and internationally. The purpose of the study is to determine the success rates for newer implant designs coming to market. This study will help define whether the success rates with newer implant designs are at comparable rates as previous generations or at even higher rates of success.
Periodontists, general dentists, oral surgeons, and prosthodontists are encouraged to participate. To participate, the research host sites must be an accredited member of the Academy of Osseointegration, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, International Congress of Oral Implantologists or the American Dental Implant Association. Dentists applying for and being accepted as research sites will receive marketing materials, instructions on how to locate study participants, and also the option for NWIRG to place and handle the marketing and patient phone calls for their location for acquiring study participants.
While participating dentists are encouraged to offer a treatment discount to patients participating in the local study, doing such is optional. For simplicity, only one practice in a geographic area is allowed to participate.
Dr James McAnally, a Seattle dentist and director of the NWIRG, said, “New implant designs are coming to market every year. The projected success rates and FDA approval is based purely on previous designs. No one knows how successful a new design is as compared to a previous known rate of success. This study will give more insight into routine rates of success for these newer designs.”
To be accepted to participate in the study, patients must be edentulous in at least one arch for at least 11 months prior to surgery, be at least 18 years old, willing and able to give informed consent, willing to participate in the study, and abundant bone Division A bone must be present in the arch to be restored.
“The benefit to patients is this gives them an opportunity for a more economical avenue for treatment and they can know that their participation goes toward improving the results for all patients missing teeth,” McAnally said.
Doctors seeking to apply to become a designated research site can contact the Northwest Implant Research Group, www.nwirg.com.
