LOS ANGELES, Calif., USA: Organizers of the first dental congress in this large California city, called the Los Angeles Dental Meeting, said the event will take place Sept. 7-8 at Universal City Hollywood, site of the famous Universal Studios and its popular amusement park.
The Universal theme park is a great tourist destination for the whole family as it offers attractions ranging from some of the best shops, and restaurants in Los Angeles to the most exciting games and rides, such as the 3–D experiences Transformers and King Kong.
At the recent Multi-Cultural Oral Health Summit in Boca Raton, Fla., which brought together for the first time the Hispanic Dental Association, the National Dental Association, and the Society of American Indian Dentists, Dental Tribune caught up with Dr. Irubiel Barbosa of the LA Dental Congress.
What is the LA Dental Meeting?
The Los Angeles Dental Meeting is a two-day conference for dental professionals that offers high-quality lectures with leading industry professionals to enhance their knowledge. Our purpose is to bring dentists together to further their mutual interests, business interests and to expose them to new technologies and provide education by top-notch speakers.
Why did you decide to organize such a congress?
Because there is not a good dental meeting in Los Angeles. We wanted to provide a great meeting with outstanding speakers.
Who is the target population of the event?
It is open to all domestic and international dentists.
Will you have English and Spanish-language lectures?
This year the meeting will only be in English. In the future, we are looking to add Spanish-language courses as well.

We will offer lectures by renowned speakers such as Dr. Robert R. Edwab, Dr. Mark Reber, Dr. Frank Vidjak, Dr. Fanny Yacaman, Dr. Charles Zahedi, Dr. Lee Maddox, Ms. Noel Kelsh or Mr. John J. Vento.
How many people do you expect?
We are expecting to attract over 350 dentists.
What are the main topics or tracks?
We have a wide variety of topics, suchas as oral surgery, practice management, endodontics, infection control.
What are the main features of the event?
We are offering free registration for people who pre-register, and $25.00 if they register on-site. The courses are free and the ones that have tuition are at a nominal fee.
Will there be live workshops too?
Not this year, we are working on scheduling workshops in the future.
Will this be an annual event from now on?
Yes, we are making this an annual event that will take in September.
