ATLANTA, Ga., USA: It’s estimated that tens of thousands of dental professionals from across the country and around the world have gathered at the Georgia World Congress Center for ADA 2017 – America’s Dental Meeting. The annual session of the American Dental Association is designed to offer valuable educational and networking opportunities to dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, business assistants and lab technicians.
ADA 2017 is offering a wide range of educational opportunities, from lectures to live patient demonstrations and even hands-on courses. In addition to the presentations being offered in the lecture halls, a number of companies have also brought in experts to teach meeting attendees from their booths right on the exhibit hall floor.
Immediately preceding this year’s meeting, the ADA teamed up with the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and University of Chicago Medicine for a symposium, “Working Together Against Oropharyngeal Cancer,” to address the relationship between HPV infection and oropharyngeal cancer.
In the exhibit hall, companies are showcasing the latest products and technology — all designed for the best in patient care. Many exhibitors are introducing new products here.

One such offering is VideoText, a new service that allows a dental practice to share customized videos explaining various dental treatment procedures to patients via text messaging. Michael Boerner, founder and president of Dental Innovations, developer of the patient communications tool, offered a demonstration at the Atlanta Dental booth.
VideoText, which is available exclusively through Atlanta Dental, lets you quickly deliver short, patient-centric videos directly to a mobile smart phone. There is no website address to remember and no app involved. As Boerner explained, it is a great way to get patients to return to your practice for treatment. There are videos that explain a number of procedures, ranging from fillings and cleanings to root canals and implants. There is even a handy way for a patient to leave a review for the practice. (Those who wish to sample the content are invited to text “ADS SMILE” to 33733.)
Also new at Atlanta Dental are GOCCLES oral cancer screening glasses, which can detect suspicious precancerous and cancerous lesions early, thereby reducing the risk of disorders becoming life-threatening. The glasses are equipped with optical filter lenses that are used in coordination with a standard curing light, allowing for quick and easy detection.
COLTENE is showcasing its BRILLIANT EverGlow composite, which is designed to show an exceptionally smooth surface and satin shine directly after placing a filling.
At Medidenta, meeting attendees can learn about Foresight 45, a self-generating LED surgical handpiece. It incorporates an air-driven generator to power a bright LED light directly into the surgical pocket. According to the company, it is ideal for use in surgery, periodontal and endodontic procedures.
These are just some of the many products and services available on the show floor.
