Over a thousand dental implant specialists who arrived in the Bahamas for the Fourth MIS Global Conference experienced the treat of their lives, well even before the scientific congress started. The spectacular tropical playground of the Atlantis Resort, a large Las Vegas-style hotel complex and marine-themed tourist extravaganza, was the venue selected by MIS to follow up on its previous global conference in Barcelona.

Here in the Bahamas, the unique experience started from the time of arrival at the hotel, located in the appropriately named Paradise Island, in Nassau. A company-managed hospitality desk provided flip-flops in front of the large aquarium for which the Atlantis Resort, as well as a peculiar invitation for a mysterious get together at night at Paradise Harbor Beach, a little cove which is part of the hotel.

Few of the guests would have guessed the large amount of people that would attend, or the seamless and carefree attitude of a huge logistical endeavor like what MIS provided for its invitees last night.

Half of the round-shaped invite was cut off by MIS staff at the entrance of the “360 Opening Party,” as it was called, an allusion to the 360-degree theme of the Fourth MIS Global Conference. A large bandshell flanked by cute food booths and small bars flanked the stage, around where a large amount of flip-flop wearing attendees had a relaxed, casual and expecting attitude.

A large white sculpture of the MIS logo next to the bay was the focus of the spotlights, where dentists had a chance to take pictures, much like people do at the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles.

Around 9 p.m., some small fireworks over the water caught the attention of people, and then, to their surprise, what seemed like magical vision materialized: a large, blue-hued and changing hologram of different MIS logos and its “Make It Simple” slogan appeared floating over the water.

This classy technological feat was just the appetizer for what the company had in storage for its guests. MIS CEO Idan Kleifeld appeared dressed casually on the stage, welcomed attendees to the Fourth MIS Global Conference, and said to be ready for the main act of the night.

What followed was something rarely, if ever, seen in the dental world or in any other trade event: a first-class rock concert by the British band Dire Straits. Attendees, who could not believe their eyes, ran toward the stage to look, listen to and, of course, take selfies of themselves with the band in the background. The music was classic rock, the sound was clear and not too loud, and the venue was confortable enough that allowed people to talk and move around.

After the band ended the show with its “Sultans of Swing” hit, MIS had still another ace under its sleeve: a five-minute fireworks show over the waters of the bay. It was the spectacular finale to a very well conceived night of surprising pleasures, which anticipated the rewards of the scientific conference.
