Shofu is celebrating the first anniversary of BeautiBond, its seventh generation bonding agent, and Dental Tribune sat down with Randy Bailey, Shofu’s director of sales, at the recent CDA meeting in Anaheim, CA, USA, to discuss this milestone.
How was the first day of the exhibition at the Shofu booth?
Friday [14 May], the first day of the show, was excellent. Traffic was brisk, and we were busy throughout the day. So it was a good first day for the meeting, and very close to what we did last year.
You are celebrating an anniversary of sorts here at the CDA spring meeting, is that correct?
One year ago at this meeting, we launched BeautiBond, our seventh generation bonding agent with two adhesive monomers for enamel and dentin.
Are there any products on the horizon for Shofu that you can give us some information about?
I am leaving for our annual meetings in Japan. There, I’ll meet with our research-and-development group to discuss several new products — these are chemical products — where we are in the process of filing new 510Ks with the FDA, and some line extensions primarily on the Beautifil Flow, which will be released a little later on. By that, I mean later on this year, hopefully during the ADA meeting, if we get through the 510K process with the government in time for this meeting. If not, then the launch will take place at the Greater New York Dental Meeting in November of this year.
I heard the Dental Advisor paid the company quite an honor on a particular product. Can you tell me about that?
Yes, for the first-year anniversary of BeautiBond, we received a five-star award from the Dental Advisor. This was very nice. Some 96 per cent of all evaluators said they would recommend the product. So we deem that a pretty good start for the first year.
