Two leaders in the dental marketplace, BIOMET 3i and Cadent, have announced a collaboration to offer digital intraoral impressions through BIOMET 3i’s patented Encode Impression System and Cadent’s iTero System. Clinicians can now make an impression of a healing abutment with the use of an intraoral wand that will scan embedded codes on the occlusal surface of the abutment.
These codes indicate the implant depth, hex orientation, platform connection and connection type (Certain Internal Connection or External Hex Connection) to design and mill the definitive abutment.
The process of making an intraoral impression may lead to greater patient satisfaction, as it eliminates the need to use impression-making material in order to make the impression. According to the companies, some patients find that it is a more comfortable procedure. Coupled with the fact that the clinician only needs to take one supragingival impression, the process may shorten the typical procedure and eliminates the need for impression copings.
“We are pleased to now offer the latest in digital dentistry innovations, which lead to increased esthetic outcomes for patients”, said BIOMET 3i President Maggie Anderson, “This new step forward in impression making is a win-win for both patients and clinicians.”
“Collaborating with BIOMET 3i reinforces our commitment to open architecture for the Cadent iTero system and, therefore, open choice for dentists, surgeons, and laboratories,” said Tim Mack, Cadent president and CEO. “Cadent is pleased to deliver yet another high-value offering to our customers through this interface with BIOMET 3i, one of the market leaders in implant solutions.”
