CHICAGO, IL, and NEW YORK, NY, USA: It’s no surprise that an improved smile can make a person appear more intelligent, successful and attractive. Research conducted by Chicago-based Beall Research & Training, on behalf of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) backs that up.

Dr Anne Beall, a social psychologist and market research professional, carried out the independent study for the AACD. Pictures of individuals before and after undergoing cosmetic dentistry procedures were shown to more than 500 Americans, a statistically valid cross section of the population. The respondents were asked to quickly judge their impressions of the people in the pictures.

Those with improved smiles were rated more attractive, intelligent, happy, successful in their career, friendly, interesting, kind, wealthy, popular with the opposite sex, and sensitive to other people.

“We’ve been telling people that a beautiful smile was a great investment in their futures. Now we have independent evidence,” said Dr Marty Zase, president of AACD.

Perhaps what’s most interesting is that the respondents were not told that the study had anything to do with dentistry.
