VANCOUVER, British Columbia, CANADA: The 2020 Pacific Dental Conference broke attendance records, with more than 14,000 attendees in Vancouver, British Columbia, for the March 5-7 meeting.

And it’s no wonder when you consider the the more than 150 open education sessions, the ever-expanding exhibit hall with more than 300 exhibitors, the fourth PDC Lab Expo and the Live Dentistry Stage (featuring six patient demonstrations) among the meeting’s many offerings.

The exhibit hall alone offers attendees an easy day’s worth of exploring. And it includes a host of extra activities to keep the experience fun and comfortable, including:

• The Relaxation Station, where certified relaxation practitioners provided chair massages and reflexology.
• Arcade Games, where you could take a break from learning and try your hand at retro arcade and pinball machines.
• Fun Photos, a photo booth where you could take a strip of photos with colleagues and family.
• An Oxygen Bar, to recharge your body with extra oxygen, which fans say may reduce stress, relax the body and increase energy.

And, of course, attendees were able to check out the aisles of new products, services and technology all focused on helping dental practices reach maximum potential.

With the coronavirus on the tip of so many tongues during the week, one booth seeing steady traffic was SciCan. Why? As Alex Earnshaw, Canadian sales manager, explained, the company’s OPTIM 33TB is one of the fastest and most effective cleaners and disinfectants. “This product completely removes all proteins and pathogens in one step,” he said. The product is a safe and effective way to protect patients and staff, while still being non-irritating and non-toxic (no skull and crossbones on the product label), Earnshaw said.

Another highly popular booth was Dentsply Sirona, which featured a program offering rebates and rewards for the big purchases that virtually all dental practices must make. The company’s new program, One DS, is designed to help practices spend efficiently.

Cashing in on show specials is another way to make the most of your money at a dental meeting. At the PDC, companies including DiaDent, featured new products and many “buy one, get one free” specials and more, only for attendees. On display in the DiaDent booth were the DiaTemp, DiaDuo, DiaEtch and other innovative new products.

PDC organizers are expecting much more of the same next year, with the 2021 meeting scheduled for March 4-6 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
