ANAHEIM, Calif., USA: CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry, held May 4 to 6 in Southern California, offered attendees plenty of opportunities. Two educational theaters in the exhibit hall at the California Dental Association’s annual spring meeting attracted capacity crowds, with a broad mix of timely presentations of interest to virtually any dental practice.

It was standing-room-only at “Online Marketing Best Practices” and “Ask the Expert — Employment Laws You Don’t Know You Could be Breaking.” Other educational choices included “Post-Election Dentistry: What’s Next and How It May Impact Your Patients and Your Practice” and “Quality and Profitability in Your Hygiene Department.”

In the exhibit hall, a diverse collection of dental companies launched new products and prominently featuring their latest offerings.

Brasseler had an expansive booth filled with a variety of products, including the new ImplantPro Titanium 204S Scaler and four ImplantPro Titanium Curettes. The scaler features thinner, shorter blades with less curvature than a traditional 204S, and the curettes feature elongated terminal shanks and thin, short blades to reduce tissue distension and ease subgingival insertion.

Also launched at CDA Presents was the DEXIS DEXcam 4 HD intraoral camera. The high-definition camera features easy focus and image-capture controls. It enables dental professionals to give patients highly detailed “show-and-tell” presentations, clearly document pre-determination claims and keep precise track of a patient’s oral-health changes over time.

Kerr presented its new product, Harmonize, described by the company as a next-generation universal composite infused with Adaptive Response Technology, which is a nanoparticle filler network that helps dentists simply and easily achieve lifelike restorations. According to the company, “the ART of Harmonize provides restorations with exceptional strength and unmatched esthetics.”

COLTENE offered a preview of its BioSonic UC150 ultrasonic cleaner. Even with its big 1.58-gallon stainless-steel tank, the unit fits into a small footprint on top of or recessed into a countertop. It features an intuitive touchscreen and a USB interface to easily download cleaning data.

Kovanaze (tetracaine HCl and oxymetazoline HCl) Nasal Spray got lots of attention in the St. Renatus booth. It’s the first product that enables dental anesthesia to be administered through a nasal spray without using a needle. The device is indicated for regional anesthesia when performing a restorative procedure on teeth #4–13 and A–J in adults and children who weigh 40 kg or more.

In the Sonendo booth, attendees could check out the company’s new GentleWave System, which combines broad-spectrum acoustic energy and advanced fluid dynamics to remove debris and tissue from the entire root canal system using Multisonic Ultracleaning technology.
