Birmingham, UK: Dental equipment manufacturer A-dec announced the extension of its line of dental chairs in the UK with a new entry-level model last week. Available to British dentists for the first time at the Dentistry Show in Birmingham, the A-dec 200 is said to be affordable, robust and easy to use.

A complete dental operatory system, the new chair comes with a delivery system, assistant’s instrumentation, a dental light and a support centre with cuspidor. A double-articulating headrest and locking two-position swivelling armrests are aimed at providing better access and comfort to patients. Through its open-platform design, the company said the A-dec 200 is able to grow with a practice by offering the possibility of adding new technology for wider functionality. For better ease of use, an optional touchpad allows operation of the chair, light and cuspidor. The new chair can be installed in either a left- or right-handed configuration.

Another novelty was presented with the new A-dec 300 LED light that, according to the company, offers a life expectancy of almost 20 years (40,000 hours) and consumes 80–90 per cent less power than conventional halogen lights. It consistently produces 5,000 K and a high colour rendering index of 94 to flood the oral cavity with light. In addition, the A-dec 300 LED features stadium lighting and a soft, feathered edge, thus diminishing shadowing and reducing eye fatigue. Comfort is further enhanced with the quiet, passive cooling design that keeps the light, dental staff and patient cool.

From the premier A-dec 500 to the adaptable A-dec 300, as well as a variety of ergonomic stools and delivery options, A-dec had a wide range of chairs and ancillary equipment at its stand in Birmingham for attendees to see and experience. They also had the opportunity to try out the My A-dec app—an innovative tool that allows for the digital design of an A-dec chair, featuring everything from added extras to upholstery and colours.
